Susan, I am so sorry for the loss of Dan. You and Dan are incredible people who were given the worst possible tragedy in the loss of sweet Theo. I pray for your wellbeing and a peaceful heart. Love Carol Driver Cain. Mom of Meredith.

Dear Mrs. Cohen,

I am a childhood friend of Daniel and we have not been in touch for many decades. Our lives went in different directions. But I have never forgotten Dan; we were "best friends" and spent happy times together. I read the NYT obit only today and am grieved to learn of his passing. I see that Dan grew up to be a prolific author (along with you) and retained a deep sense of how fairness and justice should always be present in our lives and in our social conduct. I am not surprised, remembering the values that his mother and step-father articulated at home. They were good people.

I am writing to express my sincere condolences to you and to all of your family.
I hope that you will find a measure of comfort in the memories of the happy and meaningful experiences that you shared together.

I saw the obit. in the NYT and it brought back a flood of memories of both of you. I did try to make contact after the Lockerbie news stories but failed. Sue: You have suffered too many losses and you have all the sympathy that an old friend can muster.
