Heart Emblem

Arria B. Newbold, age 79, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, May 6, 2018. She fought a brave battle with cancer for over five years. Arria, daughter of Stewart and Dorothy (Williams) Batchelder, was born on May 25, 1938 in Greenport, NY and was raised in Riverhead, NY.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Larry E. Newbold, retired Cape May County Agricultural Agent and her children Glenn Newbold (Rosemary), Wendy Cacioli (Robert), Scott Newbold (Patti) and her granddaughters Erin and Lauren Newbold. She is also survived by her elder siblings, Roger Batchelder and Jean Haley.
Arria was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House. There she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and decorating for church functions. She served on various committees (Parsonage, Missions) and coordinated Red Cross blood drives held at the church.
Arria valued education. She returned to school to earn her B.A. in Elementary Education from Rowan University at the age of 48. She went on to work as a substitute teacher for the Middle Township School District.
Arria enjoyed decorating, gardening, and shopping. She was an avid fan of figure skating and HGTV. Her appreciation of beauty and precision was evident in all her endeavors, especially her eagerly anticipated Christmas cookie assortment and well-manicured front lawn. But most of all, she will be fondly remembered for her devotion to her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
A memorial service will be held at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 12 p.m. There will be a visitation hour preceding the service at 11 a.m.
