Dorothy May Gibson, 96, passed away at Genesis Court House Center in Cape May Court House, NJ on June 14, 2018. Prior to her return to Cape May County on April 3, 2018, she resided in Jacksonville Beach, FL with family.

Dorothy has completed her journey here on earth, and today walks in paradise. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Ray W. Gibson.

Dorothy met Ray in Atlantic City, NJ during WWII. She was in nurses training and he was stationed in Atlantic City awaiting orders to go overseas. They were set-up on a blind date by another Army couple since they were both short and cute. Needless to say the rest is history.

On October 9, 1950, Dorothy M. Gibson, RN was one of 2 nurses to begin employment at Cape Regional Medical Center, formerly known as Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. On that day both doctors and nurses worked together in preparation for the opening of the hospital.

During her lifetime Dorothy enjoyed traveling. She traveled to Canada, the Northwest and Southwest areas of the United States, to the New England states as well as Europe and Hawaii. She enjoyed taking pictures of the family thru the years, and her many photo albums are a testament to her life. In her later years she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing the lottery and scratch-offs. She received the most enjoyment being with family and friends on the back porch at our family home. These were wonderful times when the family would gather together for one of her great home-cooked meals. She was proud of her family, and if you didn't think so, all you had to do was talk to her about her children or grandchildren. In addition, she was generous and unselfish with her time and the love she gave to all who knew her. We loved her dearly and will miss her greatly.

Dorothy is survived by three children, Raymond M. Gibson (Nancy) of Cape May Court House, NJ, Betty Jean Wunder of Seymour, TN, and Nancy Lee Ferruggio of Jacksonville Beach, FL. In addition, she is survived by four grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

A private family viewing will be at Radzieta Funeral Home in Cape May Court House, NJ on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am at the Baptist Church Cemetery in Cape May Court House, NJ at which time friends are welcome to join the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be given to the Genesis Court House Center in Cape May Court House, NJ, or to the Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House, NJ in memory of Dorothy M. Gibson.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff and support personnel at Genesis Court House Center, and to Cape Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion of our mother, and the support given to the family. We would also like to thank her roommate Rita at Genesis for her kindness and understanding towards our mother.
