PEERTE, GEORGE WASHINGTON, 96, of Wildwood, NJ, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017. Born in Kosciusko, MS to the late George Washington Peerte and Fannie Peerte, he moved to Wildwood over 70 years ago and was known as the unofficial mayor of Wildwood.

George was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He owned Peerte Chicken Restaurant in Wildwood and was nicknamed Chicken George. He loved to play pool at the Shamrock.

George is survived by his wife, Cinderella; his children, Annette Lymons-Wise, Eric Hall, Bonita Milledge, Allison Banks, Renee Torraine, Ronnie Saddler, and Jamie; his stepsons, Naeem Gamble and Kwame Gamble; his sister, Mary Harrah; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel.

Funeral service will be private.
