Gavitt, James Lee, 70 – of Cape May Court House, NJ passed away October 17, 2018. He was born in Hazleton, PA to the late Walter and Jeanne Wear Gavitt and earned a Master's Degree from Bloomsburg University in 1970. Jim moved to Cape May County 48 years ago and taught in Middle Township for 40 years. Over the years he also painted and wallpapered many homes and businesses throughout Cape May County. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cape May Court House and as an educator served as the MTEA President, NJEA Director, NEA Director, and MTHS former advisor for the FEA (Future Educators of America).

Jim is survived by his wife, Betsey (formerly Styers); children: Amy (Peter) Bruno and Andrew (Heather) Styers Gavitt; grandchildren: Oliver and Caroline Bruno and Elizabeth Gavitt; siblings: Walter Jospeh (Robin) Gavitt, Carol (Jack Timony) Washko, and June Phillips; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial service will be Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1 Church St., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Donations may be made in Jim's name to Future Educators of America Scholarship Fund, Middle Township High School, 300 East Atlantic Ave., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
