Heart Emblem

John Joseph Catanoso, age 65, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018. John originally was from Wildwood Crest, NJ but in recent years called Kihei, Maui, Hawaii his home. He passed away surrounded by friends at an outdoor concert in San Francisco, CA of an apparent heart attack.
John was born and raised in Wildwood Crest, NJ where he attended Phillip Baker Elementary School and Wildwood Catholic High School. He was always fun loving and dreamed early in his life to live in Hawaii...a dream that eventually came true.
John attended Marylhurst University in Portland, OR where he majored in Human Communications. He was retired from Siltronic where he was their Silicon Crystal and Wafer Manufacturing Supervisor and Sales Account Manager. John resided in Portland, OR and Carlsbad, CA while he was employed by Siltronic. He retired in his late 50's to live out his dream. By this time, he had purchased a condo on the beach in Kihei, Hawaii and could speak Hawaiian like a native.
He loved fine wine, good food and the theatre. He never missed a movie, he loved music and dance....boy, could he dance. He was passionate about the ocean and spent every minute possible diving, swimming or surfing. He was a great listener, terrific story teller and the best friend anyone could have. John was also an incredibly generous and caring person. He was very close with his mother who passed too young. Joe, John's father was very proud of his son's business accomplishments.
He also loved to travel the world and was especially fond of his Italian heritage. John spent countless weeks in Calabria, Italy where he developed a close relationship with his Italian cousins.
John is survived by his father, Capt. Joseph Catanoso (93) and is predeceased by his mother, Constance Applebee Catanoso (1993). He is also survived by his father's sisters; Leona Betz (99) and Mary Nestor (95), from Cape May County. His mother's cousins, Kathleen Steinberger (88), Her brother, Jack Kallin (91), his cousins, Barbara Lepore, Fred Steinberger and Ron Steinberger from Brick, NJ, many Catanoso and Lepore cousins and more friends than I could ever count. PLUR
A memorial service for John will be held at 12:00 p.m. on July 11th, 2018 at Windrift Hotel Resort, 105 80th Street, Avalon, NJ 08202.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Oregon Food Bank at 7900 NE 33rd Street, Portland, OR 97211 or Maui Food Bank at 760 Kolu Street, Wailuku, HI 96793
