Jorge Gallardo Jr., 52, of Woodbine, NJ, passed away on Monday July 16, 2018, the result of a motor vehicle accident on Route 550 in Belleplain, NJ.
Jorge was born January 7, 1966 in Bronx, New York to Jorge Gallardo Sr. and Monserrate Gomez Rodriguez. As a child, he briefly attended Woodbine Elementary School in Woodbine NJ, and finished his schooling at South Dade Senior High School in Homestead, FL.

In March 1984-August 1987, he enrolled in the Florida National Guard where he received an honorable discharge after completing a three year term. While serving in the National Guard, he worked as a forklift operator, and then as a salesman where he became a department head supervisor in his favorite hardware store.

Jorge always looked for opportunities to advance. He worked at another hardware store as an assistant manager trainee while he went to school to learn computer operations. This later landed him a job with the City of Homestead from December 1989-March 2007 where he worked for a total of 17 years.

At the City of Homestead, he held various service and support positions - streets and sanitation in public works, meter reader, billing tech, and warehouse purchasing tech all in the utilities department. He also worked parks and recreation part time. Due to his work ethics, he was promoted to a position as a power plant operator, then a mechanic, and finally as a foreman in the same utilities power plant. During those years, Jorge received 5 years, 10 years, and 15 years dedicated service award certificates. He also received a safety award and two commendation letters. The August 5, 1999 letter, commended him for averting a disastrous event after a fire broke out in a generator pit in an engine at his job site. He also served as a tour guide for his power plant when the "Citizen's Academy Bus Tour" came around each year.

Having gone through hurricane Andrew in August of 1992, and all the challenges that brought to his life, he became a United Way volunteer, and later served as a response team member for the hurricane Opal Disaster in October 1995.

Due to illness, Jorge returned to his Woodbine roots. On July 31, 2009, he met and on April 25, 2013 married Deborah S. Batchelor. He is survived by his wife Debbie - nine years together, his three children from a previous marriage, Jorge Gallardo III, Janette Gallardo, and Jalissa Gallardo, as well as, his three children by marriage, Mary Batchelor, Diomedes Rodriguez Jr., and Alexander Rodriguez. He is also survived by his father and mother (previously mentioned above); four sisters and brothers, Lizzette Gallardo, Monserrate Gallardo, Rodolfo Gallardo, and Rolando Gallardo; two granddaughters, Kaelyn Rodriguez, and Rhaziella Onia; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jorge, also nicknamed "Macho," was a curious soul who loved knowledge and whose happiest moments were in tinkering and creating things. So, it's no surprise that his favorite hobbies were in home improvements, computers, auto mechanics, and electronics. He also enjoyed gardening and was affectionately called, "Farmer Brown." Jorge was great at sharing what he knew. It made for many wonderful hours of conversation with him. And though he faced health challenges, his sense of humor was untouchable. He could make people laugh even in the midst of his own storms. He will be truly missed.

A celebration of Jorge's life will take place at Horne's Temple Lighthouse Deliverance Ministries Church of Woodbine, NJ on Saturday August 11, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Family members will be there at 12:15 pm to welcome all who plan to attend.
