JOSEPH W. DISCHER, JR., 81, of Rio Grande, NJ, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019 at his home. Born in Philadelphia to the late Joseph William Discher and Elizabeth Tiernan Discher, he started summering here seventeen years ago and moved here permanently five years ago from Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1959. He was a building engineer/supervisor for the Philadelphia Public School District.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church where he was a member of the Seniors Club. He was also a member of the Middle Township and Lower Township Seniors Clubs. In Philadelphia, he was a member of the Resurrection, St. Jerome's, and Blessed Virgin Mary Seniors Clubs. He enjoyed watching sports and traveling. He especially enjoyed his trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe.

Joe is survived by his wife, Anna Marie (nee Appolonia) Discher; his children, Michael Discher, Marie (Richard) Angeloni, Sharon (the late Gregory) Micenec, and Joseph Discher; his step children, James (Terri) DeLorenzo, John (Sue Ann) DeLorenzo, Ann Marie (George) Cuthbert, and Donna DeLorenzo; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe is the brother of Betty Jane (Tom) Sexton, Marie (the late Bill) Spain, the late John (Toni) Discher, the late Gerard (Mary Jane) Discher, and Dorothy (Mickey) Lees.

Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Parish, 5450 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19124, where viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, 1032 North 48th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19131. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016 or at
