"Larry" Howe, 73, of Avalon, NJ - passed away February 26, 2018. Professor and former chair of the Mathematics department at Rowan University. His career spanned more than four decades at Rowan from 1970 to 2014. His many professional highlights included service on the committee whose work led to the founding of Rohrer College of Business, sponsorship of a Student Government-chartered math team, and the 2012 installation of a Rowan chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the Mathematical Honor Society. A 1998 inductee of Rowan's Wall of Fame, he was honored for his contributions to logistical and statistical studies and recognized as a classroom teaching hero.
An avid sports fan, rooting specifically for the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and Philadelphia 76ers, he always enjoyed watching a good game with his family. As a child and adult, he enjoyed collecting sports cards and memorabilia. He also enjoyed running, billiards, tennis, ping pong, chess, bridge, basketball, and countless other sports, games and activities. A musician and trumpet player through high school and college, he always loved listening to Jazz.
He is survived by his wife Patricia A. Howe, daughters Donna Garrett (Guy) and Lauri Howe, sons Jeff Howe (Dawn Frasnelli), Brian Howe (Jackie), Dennis Howe (Isangi), and nine grandchildren. There will be a private burial. Family and friends are invited to a memorial reception at the family home at 2754 First Ave., Avalon, NJ 08202 on Friday, 3/2 from 2-5 p.m.
