Mary Ellen Atzert, aged 68, died on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in LaGrange Park, IL. She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts to William and Mary McGlone, who both died before her. Her younger sister Ann also died before her. She spent most of her formative years in LaGrange Park, IL, where she graduated from St. Francis Xavier grade school and Nazareth Academy high school. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English at University of Dallas and took some graduate courses at the University of Chicago. In the mid-1970s she moved to Washington, DC to work for the American Petroleum Institute. She met her husband, Steve, at a St. Matthew's Cathedral Parish social concerns committee meeting in Washington, D.C., in May 1977. She and Steve were married at St. Matthew's Cathedral on July 15, 1978. The family moved several times due to Steve's work with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, ending up in Cape May Court House in June 1991.

In Cape May County, Mary Ellen taught for many years at St. Raymond's and Bishop McHugh. Later she taught at Cape Trinity Catholic as special education teacher. She also did private tutoring. Mary Ellen loved to travel, enjoyed doing pastels and watercolor, and was an avid reader and knitter. She also loved her cats, chickens and rabbits. She made an impact on everyone she met, and was truly the life of the party wherever she went.

Mary Ellen is survived by her husband Steve, children Maria, Peter, Clare, Charles, and Joseph, and niece Eileen.
