Shortal, Robert G., 83 – of Harrington Park, NJ, passed away on October 16, 2011 at home with family. Born in Kearny to Nicholas and Lillian Shortal and raised in Lyndhurst, he was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on a destroyer escort before graduating from NYU in 1951. He was a past commander of the American Legion of Harrington Park as well as Councilman. His work included Correspondent and Editor for UPI, Public Relations for City Service, Gulf Western, and RCA where he retired as Staff Vice President of Communications and Exhibits. He was a NY Financial Writer and served as President of the NY Financial Writers 1957-58 and as an instructor at NYU School of Continuing Education. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer for the Harrington Park Ambulance Corps. He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline, in 1999.
Robert is survived by his children: General John F. (Pam) Shortal, Mary (Sean) Mulkearns, Roberta (David) Dean, and Judy (Admiral Thomas) Copeman; and seven grandchildren: Bridgid, Julian, Cara, Caitlin, Nick, Tommy, and Patrick.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Victories Church, 150 Harriot Avenue, Harrington Park, NJ 07640. Donations may be made in Robert's name to the Harrington Park Ambulance Corps, 15 Kline Street, Harrington Park, NJ 07640 or Our Lady of Victories Church.
